CSA Statement on the Death of George Floyd
The tragic death of George Floyd in Minneapolis and the events that have unfolded since have undoubtedly had a profound emotional impact on your students and their families, your staff, as well as you and your own families. CSA stands with all those opposing the systemic injustice against communities of color and shares the hurt, sorrow, and frustration that our city and nation is experiencing during this painful moment in our history. Very few understand the immeasurable role that school leaders and administrators play in educating and supporting those they serve during such moments. Doing so during this pandemic, as you continue to mourn losses within your communities and navigate the inherent challenges of remote learning, is especially daunting. As our city continues to evaluate and plan what the return to school buildings may look like, it is clear that NYC students will need tremendous social and emotional support to contend with our city’s collective suffering in recent months. We will continue to vigorously advocate that you have the necessary support and resources to address your school’s evolving needs. Please stay safe, and we urge you to lean on each other and our union for whatever you may need.
