CSA Statement On Teacher Walkouts
A message from CSA President Mark Cannizzaro:
Throughout this week, teachers in Oklahoma have walked off the job and held rallies to demand higher pay and an increase in school funding. Teachers in Kentucky have similarly protested budget cuts and a pension reform bill. Teacher organizers in Arizona are building support for a walkout there as well. This wave of activism follows the statewide strike in West Virginia last month that won teachers and other government employees pay raises. Educators in right-to-work states are now at the forefront of an escalating movement we haven’t seen for a long time. CSA stands with these educators who recognize how inadequate funding impacts their classrooms and the students they serve. While unions everywhere await the Janus decision and fight back against the federal government’s attempts to silence the labor movement, the voices of working people across the country are ringing louder.
