CSA Offers Testimony at City Council Hearing on School Segregation
On May 1, CSA Executive Vice President Henry Rubio offered testimony at the NYC Council hearing on school segregation, and CSA issued a memorandum of support on several resolutions that would create a specialized high school taskforce, district diversity working groups, and a school diversity advisory group.
“At CSA, we believe that students of every race, gender, and socio-economic status benefit from a diverse, inclusive classroom,” said Mr. Rubio. “There are of course many possible ways to address systemic segregation in our public schools, and our members, the city’s school leaders, must always be included in the dialogue to diversify our schools. Let’s always be reminded that it’s our school leaders that face the critical task of implementing these plans on a daily basis and addressing the fears and concerns of those who oppose them. Our school leaders must be given the time and resources necessary to implement any diversity plan successfully, including fully funding our schools.”
