Society of Haitian School Administrators Inaugural Event
About 50 CSA members of Haitian descent as well as other CSA members attended the May 18 Society of Haitian School Administrators general meeting, its first ever. SHSA executive board members Dr. Max Jean Paul, Dr. James Philemy, Pauline Dorsaint, Glenda Esperance, Natasha Ulysses and Edu Hermelyn and I hosted the event, held at CSA headquarters.
The evening began with greetings and blessings from CSA First Vice President Rosemarie Sinclair. CSA Assistant Grievance Director Dale Kelly, President of the Black Caucus, also came. Dr. Henry Joseph offered benedictions, followed by presentations by New York City Council Member Eugene Mathieu from Brooklyn, Josue Pierre from the office of New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer, and Dr. Caterina DiTillio, an education administrator who discussed the wonderful work she is doing in Haiti.
The Haitian flag was proudly hung and the tables were covered with blue and red tablecloths. Throughout the evening, SHSA president Jean Paul shared our vision and mission to create a support system that recognizes our cultural heritage and provides a platform where our expertise can be shared and celebrated.
“Walking into the building with my flag on display was the cherry on top of my day,” said Principal Berthe Faustin, Principal of PS 189K.
The evening culminated with the recognition of educational pioneers within our community: Ms. Nancy Esposito, CSA District Chair, Ms. Faustin, and Dr. Monalisa Ferrari were honored for their distinguished work and leadership.
“This was a very special day,” said Dr. Magalie Alexis. “I am profoundly moved by the experience.”
SHSA sends a special thank you to CSA for their support. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Richard Forman, Principal at Clara Barton High School, Ketler Louissaint, superintendent of District 75, and Clarence Ellis, superintendent of District 17 in Brooklyn, who all attended the event.
