DOE Member Benefits
CSA’s national union, the American Federation of School Administrators (AFSA), provides member benefits including insurance and legal services.
AFSA offers programs that have been designed to meet the specific needs of school administrators and supervisors. As a member of CSA and AFSA, you are automatically enrolled in certain benefits when you pay your union dues. These benefits fall under the AFSA Legal Action Trust and the AFSA Insurance Policy. These benefits and programs are made possible to AFSA members at discounted prices due to AFSA’s affiliation with the AFL-CIO. To qualify for these benefits, you need only be a member in good standing. To activate some member benefits, members must fill out an AFSA beneficiary form.

For more information, please visit the AFSA website and look under “benefits”: www.AFSAadmin.org
CSA members in good standing can arrange personal interviews with a pension consultant prior to retirement.
Since October 1, 2001, each member is entitled to a maximum of three pension consultations prior to retirement, but no more than one in any calendar year. Consultants provide feedback based on the information you give them. The consultant can only provide an estimate of your retirement benefit. After retirement, TRS will provide you with the final determination.
Please contact your own accountant regarding tax liabilities.
For a voucher for a pension consultation, call the CSA Membership Department at (212) 823-2020 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.

For prescription eyeglasses: CSA members can receive up to $65 per member and $50 for spouses and one named dependent child per two (2) year period. This benefit is coordinated through the CSA Welfare Fund, but is supplemental to Welfare Fund optical benefits.
In-service DOE members are eligible for an annual, unlimited ride MetroCard – the Premium Transit Check MetroCard – via a pre-tax payroll deduction as well as other savings on computers, cell phone service, banking, theater and retail stores by clicking HERE.
