Pioneering educators were honored and scholarships doled out as the Black Caucus of CSA marked its tenth anniversary with the annual "Legendary Luncheon" at Terrace on the Park in Queens.
The June 11 ceremony featured steel-pan music by the Waverly Sounds band from PS 156 and IS 392, a spirited rendition of "Lift Every Voice and Sing" by Dial-A-Teacher Coordinator Sean Blanks.
CSA President Ernest Logan delivered a congratulatory toast to the honorees. CSA First Vice President Mark Cannizzaro, New York State Regent Lester Young, and City Councilpersons Inez Baron and Robert Cornegy were also on hand.
York College Assistant Professor, Poet and Publisher Dr. Lindamichelle Baron received the Special Recognition Award. P-Tech founding Principal Rashid Davis, Waverly School Principal Beverly Logan, Adelaide Sanford Institute Director Dr. Linda Patterson, and former District 16 Deputy Superintendent and founding Benjamin Banneker Academy Principal Frank Spradley were each named Legendary Leader Awardees.
Municipal Credit Union Scholarship winners included Brianna Thomas and Philesha Teape of Pathway College Preparatory School, Amoy Brayan and Monique Duffus of William J. Maxwell CTE HS, Dara Desrosiers and Mickella Albertinie of Thurgood Marshall Academy, Safiatou Sangare of Bronx Center for Science and Mathematics, and Shyon Small of Medgar Evers Preparatory High School.
