Executive Leadership Institute's Leadership Summit

For the third consecutive year, New York State Commissioner of Education MaryEllen Elia gave the keynote address at the Executive Leadership Institute's Leadership Summit at Fordham University's Columbus Circle campus in Manhattan. During her address on Wednesday, July 12, the commissioner detailed a two-year effort of traveling around the state to talk to educators and parents about New York's learning standards and assessments, resulting in substantive changes to the new English Language Arts and Mathematics Standards. "As we move forward and the new standards are in place, assements will change," said Ms. Elia, who added that she believes it's important that teachers be involved in the process. "Evaluations should be developed by the people being evaluated."
