Member Benefits
CSA provides benefits and discount opportunities that can save individual members hundreds of dollars.
In addition to the CSA-provided membership benefits, CSA members are eligible for benefits and discounts through their memberships with the national union, the American Federation of School Administrators (AFSA), as well as with the AFL-CIO. In-service Department of Education employees are also eligible for discounts through their employer. Links to these websites are provided below. The CSA leadership urges you to take advantage of all the benefits for which you are eligible as a union member. Please take the time to visit the websites listed here.
1. Pension Consultations – (For in-service CSA members only)
CSA members in good standing can arrange personal interviews with a pension consultant prior to retirement. Since October 1, 2001, each member is entitled to a maximum of three pension consultations prior to retirement, but no more than one in any calendar year. Pension consultations are based on the information you provide to the pension consultant. The consultant can only provide an estimate of your retirement benefit. After retirement, TRS will provide you with the final determination. Also, contact your own accountant regarding tax liabilities. For a voucher, call the CSA Membership Department at (718) 852-3000 or email membership@csa-nyc.org
2. Optical Benefits – (For in-service CSA members only)
Reimbursement on prescription eyeglasses of up to $65 per member and $50 for spouses and one named dependent child per two (2) year period. This benefit is coordinated through the CSA Welfare Fund but is supplemental to Welfare Fund optical benefits.

5. Long Term Disability & Voluntary Life Insurance
CSA is very excited about two new benefits available to our members through a partnership with Guardian. The first is a long term disability insurance that will allow you to insure your most important asset - your ability to earn an income. This is the first time we are offering this protection and we know it is an important piece of financial planning. The second benefit is a voluntary term life insurance program. Life insurance needs will vary by member but we wanted to make sure you had access to more protection at competitive pricing based upon our total membership. Both of these programs will be on a Guaranteed Issue basis during open enrollment only, therefore, it is very important to review the materials we will be sending you in the future.
If you have questions regarding enrollment, please call the Employee Benefit Hotline at (888) 600-1600. Representatives will be able to assist you with online enrollment and answer any benefit questions. The hotline hours are from 7am-8:30pm EST. Please reference group number 479014 when you call.
Open enrollment runs through the end of July.
