National Puerto Rican Day Parade
Thousands celebrated the 54th Annual Puerto Rican Day Parade along Fifth Avenue on June 12; proudly waving the Puerto Rican flag from the Educational/Leadership Project float were school leaders and advocates.
The National Puerto Rican Day Parade Inc., is a nonprofit that promotes the Puerto Rican heritage to enhance its political, social and economic agenda. The organization’s founder Ramón S. Vélez, Sr. envisioned a program that prepares future leaders in education and business for the betterment of the Hispanic community. As a result, the Educational/Leadership Project was created and has among many endeavors offer scholarships to High School graduates and college students from the City University of The City of New York (CUNY).
This year, four CSA members were honored at the annual Educational/Leadership Project Banquet. The CSA members are CSA Executive Director Operations Anita Gomez-Palacio, NYC Elementary School Principal’s Association (NYCESPA) Pierre Lehmuller; Ramon Gonzalez, Principal, MS 223, D-7; Leticia Rosario, Principal, PS/MS 218, D-9 and Marilyn Torres PS 145, D-32.
