Closing The Achievement Gap

 On December 7, a series of panels entitled "Closing the Achievement Gap", sponsored by the NYC DOE's Division of Teaching and Learning, opened at St. Francis College in Brooklyn.

The evening started with a lecture by Ronald E. Walker, Executive Director of the Coalition of Schools Educating Boys of Color (COSEBOC). He discussed how importance of setting high standards and high expectations for African American boys. 

Following the presentation, CSA President Ernest Logan moderated a panel consisting of Lefarren B. Washington, teacher and co-founder of B.O.N.D, Thurgood Marshall Academy for Learning and Social Change (TMA); Daraiel Vasquez, TMA student and B.O.N.D member; Kenyatte Reid, Principal, Satellite III, D-13; and Shawn L. Robertson, Ed.D, Assistant Professor, St. Joseph’s College.
